Primitive rugs
Dating back as long as 7,000 years ago, primitive carpets, woven until the first years of the last century by cultures now forgotten, are recognized as the ancestors of all carpets.
Altai displays the 3 macro-families (knotted, flat-woven and felted) in the 3 large rooms of its gallery.
Ancient Tulu sleeping coverlet-carpets, Karakilim made by Yoruk nomads, Pashtun felts from Central Asia and others transport us on a journey to the origins of creativity, demonstrating how simple necessity can give rise to masterpieces of insuperable modernity.
