THE MERMAID GARDEN

On the occasion of Milan Design Week, ALYSI presents The Mermaid Garden - a site-specific exhibition project that transforms the boutique space in Brera into a suspended, immersive landscape. The installation, on view in the store from April 18 to 26, weaves together ALYSI’s vision with that of the creative duo formed by Chiara Caselli and Francesco Carrasso, known as CCONTINUA + MAMT.
A submerged garden emerges and takes shape as a fluid ecosystem, inhabited by hybrid and silent presences. Ceramic vessels populated by mermaids become porous bodies and narrative surfaces, marked by signs, waves, and ever-evolving figures. In dialogue with the floral interventions by Albasser Studio, vegetal matter defies gravity and constructs an aquatic dimension: elements that float in space, generating a fragile and contemplative balance.
“Tattooed” totems rise as archetypal presences, evoking the columns of a submerged temple. The project thus unfolds as an invitation to lose oneself in an expanded perception, composed of imperceptible details and subtle transformations.
CCONTINUA + MAMT’s practice stands out for a language that intertwines primitivism and contemporary imagery, where matter and narrative merge into a poetic and figurative gesture. From clay work to hand-embroidered tapestries, to graphic interventions with a tattoo-like aesthetic, the duo develops a body of research that evokes a contemporary “tribal act,” capable of connecting archaic symbolism with present-day sensibilities.
At the center of the narrative, mermaids emerge: ambiguous and seductive mythological figures, long suspended between attraction and danger. From hybrid creatures of ancient tradition to contemporary marine icons, mermaids embody a layered imaginary that speaks of desire, transformation, and identity. Through ceramics and textiles, the installation celebrates their enigmatic allure, embracing the unpredictability of nature and its infinite mutations.
Like a slow immersion into the depths, the project invites viewers to engage with an intimate dimension, where shadows are tinged with blue and every form becomes the reflection of a possible metamorphosis.
An experience that suggests a subtle question: how far are we willing to explore our submerged zones?
